( Non-fandom work stuff: met a couple more of my students, worked out schedule so now I know officially what I teach, our boss loves us already and starts crying, etc )-----------------------------
FUN PORTION OF THE ENTRYMy boss had asked me to bring in music for jazz ideas for the competitive lines and I won't bore you with ALL of that BUT!! SKLDFHASHKJF. I brought in "Damaged People" by Depeche Mode as one of them, and I was like, "Okay, this one is about New York. In the late 80's, early 90's, because there were all of those strange, different, really artistic people there, and it was kind of the island of misfit toys... and this was just when AIDS was starting to become an issue - I mean, we don't have to have that as part of the story we tell the girls if we don't want, but historically that's just what was going on, and no one would talk about it - so this song is about that, being drawn together, being scared and unsure of the world but at the same time, completely safe with each other." And she LOVED it. LOVED IT. When I said that bit about artistic people, she shut her eyes and nodded like she actually knew what I was referring to, she loved the bit about misfit toys, she loved the song itself. So I would absolutely LOVE to do it as tribute and a nod to
Lisa E. ♥ Especially since that's one of my all-time favorite parts about her, that time she spent in NY. This is a really fun part of my job that I never anticipated or thought about - being able carry out these things that have personal meaning to me.
ALSO. I brought in
"U" by Paula Abdul. And I was like, "This is really hard for me because I don't know you and what you like in terms of dances and music but, I have ALWAYS wanted to do something with this song and... straitjackets." Her jaw fell open in a very good way. So I started explaining it and interrupted myself to say, "Or is this not your thing?" and she said, "No no, you got my attention." So she really liked that idea. But as the song went on, she said, "I could even see the younger girls doing this, like all cutesy *does stuff*" and if that happens, I will cry at the bastardization of my brilliant idea with this song. I told her that it is probably too mature a song for them. So I'm just hoping. I will also be pissed if she takes my straitjacket idea and puts it to a different song. Because the awesomeness of the whole thing is that it is WITH that song. I play this game in my head where I make official music videos to songs that don't have them, and now that I'm a dance teacher I have the opportunity to apply some of those, and U is one of them and
that's always the concept I've had for this song and and I skjdfhhkjas idek. I will be so sad if she takes the song and uses something else with it or if she takes the straitjacket plot and uses a different song with it. THEY HAVE TO GO TOGETHER. But. If she DOES use them together, I will be so so so excited to sit down and do that.
This job will be SO fun if we get to do these fandom dances.
